LITTLE WING

Faith Ulwelling, born in ‘82, grew up the oldest of five to a church vocalist and blues harmonica player. Her mother attending Betheny College on a vocal scholarship and her father a self taught “harp” player. Moving to Durand, WI  at the age of 12,  Faith soon became a frequent choir soloist, also doing parades and community events.  The family soon became a fixture in the small town’s hoppin' blues scene. By age sixteen Faith was singing out at blues jams accompanied by her father “Harmonica Mike” and then by her younger guitar slinging brother Jacob. Faith played saxophone and drums through high school and joined her father and current band mate Tim Caswell in her first band as the drummer and backup singer in the group Kees and Cass. After graduating high school Ulwelling did a stint in the service, joining ARNG 132 Support Battalion, meanwhile earning a degree from UW Stout. During those years she formed the band Left Wing Bourbon, with her brother and bassist Jacob Ulwelling, later adding Tim Caswell, Derrick Biederman and Jason Keisler.

By 2008, Left Wing Bourbon had taken the Chippewa Valley by storm, becoming one of the area’s most in demand blues acts, performing at hundreds of venues and festivals around the midwest. You can also catch her vocal work with the jazz combo Milanesa & the blues duo Little Wing. Dubbed by V1 magazine as having “the strongest and most soulful vocals you'll hear north of the Mississippi delta.” and often likened to Aretha Franklin, Joss Stone and Lydia Pence, Ulwelling is sought after for studio work and has been recorded on several albums spanning genres outside her own including rock, indie folk, and even heavy metal. Listen for her on the next Jimmy’s album!  In addition to her musical and professional ventures, the humble singer has been instrumental in serving as a volunteer coordinator & treasurer of the non-profit organization Blues on the Chippewa and is founder and president of the charity “Brent Titus Music for Children,” having raised the initial capital by selling prints of her own art work to purchase instruments for aspiring students from low income families.

Tim Caswell was born in 1951 in upstate New York.Though his father, a professor of music, wanted him to pursue a college degree, Tim had decidedly different aspirations, picking up a guitar and a love of Rock n Roll, funk and Blues genres. Having skipped graduating high school and dropping out of college after a couple short semesters, Caswell toured the midwest with the band ROXX until he eventually landed in Silicon Valley, CA in 1979. There he worked in the electronics industry before moving to Los Angeles, where he eventually ran the tech/service department at S.I.R, a Hollywood fixture, which provided rehearsal space and music gear rental.

Never happy with existing sounds, Tim began to modify amplifiers. Two of his 100 watt Marshalls became very popular in the 80s LA rock scene, being used on albums by, among others, Power  Station, Dokken, and Guns & Roses' debut album Appetite For Destruction. Leaving SIR, Tim went to Hi-Tech Musical services, where he repaired and modified the new synthesizers that were changing the sound of music. Moving back to the midwest in 87, Tim began designing his own synthesizers, marketing them through his company, Studio Electronics. His products can be heard on literally millions of records by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Beyonce,Snoop Dog, and Justin Timberlake, to mention a few. (go to studioelectronics.com for more details)

Caswell’s genius and love for music have paired well over his lifetime-having played in bands too numerous to list, his guitar and keyboard playing have taken him to many stages around the country-landing him in most recent years with Left Wing Bourbon, Little Wing, Combo Flambe and the acoustic Americana duo Tim & Emily. Caswell also records artists at his Pierce County, WI at-home studio.
